Discussion Forum Topic Return to All Topics Forum topic From LouiseH (3 Replies) Problems with BT land lines this week I don't know if anyone else in the Green Lane area has been left without a phone line for the better part of this week. Having realised I had no dial tone on Monday evening, at about 6.30pm I reported the fault to BT. 72 hours later its still not fixed and after four phone calls to BT I was still none the wiser as to the cause of the problem. They admitted it was a fault their end, but nobody seemed to know what. "It's with the Openreach engineers" is all they kept telling me. So, on my day off today driving northbound along Green Lane, I noticed two Openreach vans and two engineers fiddling with the green box on the corder of Parkview. Further up I spied another five Openreach vans and a tent covering a manhole and about a dozen engineers. Thinking this must have something to do with my problem, I stopped the car and crossed the road to enquire. It turns out someone had tried to "steal" a rather large underground cable, according to the engineers I spoke to, and had resulted in loss of service to approximately 500 customers in the area! Now why couldn't BT have told me that? If they'd been honest up front and said what the problem was, and how many people it had affected, I wouldn't have felt the need to keep calling them every 12 hours for an update! It's still not working, but at least I've seen evidence that they're working on the problem, even if I did have to find that information out myself!   Replies:       LouiseH Reply to: Problems with BT land lines this week It all got sorted out on the Friday, which was a whole week. Now I could cope without my phone (even though I have really bad phone reception on my Orange mobile indoor and couldn't really use that)but just got fed up that there was updates from BT. Mind you,when it was sorted I had four (yes four!)phonecalls from BT saying it was fixed and one knock on the door from a BT Openreach engineer, which I thought was nice. Bit overkill though, all the phonecalls! :o) Now, I'm just wondering if the power outage in Bexleyheath and surrounding areas was in any way linked to this problem? Same group of people responsible I wonder? Maybe, maybe not? 02/08/2009 15:13 citizen Reply to: Problems with BT land lines this week Mmmm, our service is provided by Virgin, and did seem to get louder last week, I bet they 'borrowed' your cable, they all lay next to each other in the road, don't they. Well seriously, I hope you've finally got your line sorted.
