I have lived in New Eltham for 40 years, yes it has changed, places always do.
Although I believe now that there is a gradual transformation is in progress and it is for the better, many professional couples view its close proximity to the city, its playing fields and parkland plus reasonable house prices as a benefit. I find it very convenient as I sometimes use City Airport and New Eltham with its connections to docklands via Lewisham and Woolwich Arsenal D.L.R are first rate and if our local MP Clive Efford succeeds we will have an extension of the service to Eltham. The future could be very bright for this little oasis in the Borough of Greenwich

I say Johnboy steady on there I've only lived here 25 years I hope you don't think it's me lowering the tone of the neighbourhood!
Joking aside I quiet agree with the comments, maybe these replies should be made into a leaflet and distributed to the local shops and council it might shame them into a response and get somthing done

Let's hope the Co-op was one of the few that did show some interest. That place must be raking in the money, judging by the constant queues in there every evening when I pop in after work.
I would like to fully support the local shops by shopping locally (possibly not so much Jade Garden as way too much of my money is spent in there! lol!) but the shop owners should be keen to improve the surrounding area and make it a nice place to shop.

we recently had a survey done by by one of our local councillors asking the shopkeepers what they thought of the area, unfortunatly most of them showed very little interest.

I was in Northern France recently in a little town which can't have much money, but they have managed to make their centre square look really cared for. Surely something similar could be done in New Eltham Village? (See the picture in 'Photos').

I agree! The area at the back of the car park, near the recycling bins is a terrible mess. There is no excuse for this. The recycling bins were spilling over and all sorts of junk has made its way to the overgrown area behind the bins and along the alleyway. Personally I think the manager of the Co-op should be taking more responsibility for this by nagging the council to clear it up, or if not the council's responsibility then doing it themselves...
