This does concern me. I think these half hearted or, "fake" if you like, cycle lanes give cyclists a false sense of security. If you're going to have a cycle lane do it properly and not just as a reason to slow down traffic, there are other, and better, ways to do that. I wouldn't use these so called cycle lanes if you paid me. Far too dangerous and they aren't continuous, I've seen them up the top end of Green Lane, near Chislehurst, they just stop in random places forcing cyclists further out into the road.

Louise, as I understand it, kerb parking will be mandatory (ie, you won't have the choice NOT to park in the normal way) on the even no. side of the Eltham end of Green Lane, down from Fiveways. On each side of the road, approx two feet wide, out from the parked cars into the road, will be a buffer zone, so you can open your car door without hitting a cyclist. Then, further out into the road, will be a cycle lane on both sides of the road. Then, finally, there will be a lane for cars in each direction, seperated by a single line (the existing cross hatching will go). I hope that was a bit easier to understand. So, apart from the paint on the road, the road will appear wider and do nothing for pedestrians trying to cross. I suppose cars will have more room to swerve round them!

I agree.
I didn't get the council's point about the B13 bus being a reason for not having speed bumps. They didn't go into detail on this one.
Westmount Road has speed bumps and a bus travels up and down it with no problem as far as I can tell. I think the Council should clarify this point.
Also, I'm confused as to where the cycle lane would go. If directly next to the kerb then what about parking in front of our own dropped kerb (which you're currently allowed to do. Would this no longer be an option (outside of restricted times that is)? You couldn't do it if the cycle lane was there as it would force bikes to weave in and out of the cycle lane...
